Initial Consultation Centers

The AdBK's initial consultation centers offer victims of discrimination, disadvantage, harassment, sexual harassment, abuse of power, and violence anonymous advice on their rights, procedures, and options for action, as well as on the complaint process.

At the request of those affected, they forward the matter to the complaints office. Without prejudice to their right to an internal complaints procedure, those affected have the option of contacting the AdBK complaints office, other external counseling centers, or authorities directly.

Equality and Anti-Semitism Officer

The Equality Officer sees it as her task to promote diversity and enforce it in all university policy committees, institutions, and teaching areas.
She is the first point of contact for students who feel discriminated against on the basis of ethnicity, class, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
Discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, class, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation is not permitted.
The Anti-Semitism Officer's top priority is to ensure that Jews at the university find a safe environment and a natural coexistence, as well as appreciation for Jewish life, just as for all diversity of lifestyles and religions.

Staff Council

The Staff Council at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg represents the rights of employees and civil servants at the AdBK Nuremberg, with the exception of professors and student employees, on the basis of the Bavarian Staff Representation Act (BayPVG). It consists of three members, who are elected every five years – most recently in 2016– by the two aforementioned employee groups on a parity basis.

The tasks of the Staff Council include
•    Co-determination, participation, monitoring, or consultation on measures taken by the institution that affect employees, e.g., hiring, dismissals, pay grades, and regulations governing working conditions, order in the institution, and employee conduct
•    Advising employees on all work-related personal matters.
The staff council works together with the university's women's representative to fulfill its duties, if necessary.

Representation for people with disabilities

The Representative Body for Severely Disabled Persons (SBV) at Bavarian universities is, alongside the staff council, an important institution that represents the interests of severely disabled persons and persons of equal status and promotes their participation in university life. It is an elected representative body in accordance with Sections 177-180 of Social Code IX (SGB IX).
The representative body for severely disabled persons has the task of promoting the integration of severely disabled persons in the workplace and in their studies, representing their interests, and providing them with advice and assistance. The university is obliged to inform the representative body for severely disabled persons immediately and comprehensively in all matters affecting individuals or disabled persons as a group, and to consult with them before making decisions.

Equal Opportunities, Inclusion and Diversity

Mission Statement of the AdBK Nuremberg

Kunstaktion an der AdBK Nürnberg, Foto: AdBK Nürnberg

The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg (AdBK) sees itself as a sanctuary of the (im)possible, as a place of individual personality development, of open discourse and also of constructive dissent. It sees itself as a place of tolerance, exchange, mutual stimulation, preservation of emancipatory achievements, freedom from defamation, appreciation and consideration.

It understands equal opportunity, inclusion and diversity as quality characteristics and enrichment for teaching, arts and sciences. It recognizes the sensitivity that must be exercised in light of the particularities of arts education, in which emotionality, identity, and physicality are components of artistic development. It promotes a culture of looking and advocates appreciative, respectful interaction that respects the dignity of each person.

At the AdBK, all persons are entitled to social interaction and an academic working and teaching environment that is free from discrimination, humiliation, abuse of power, unequal treatment, sexual harassment and violence. It is the responsibility of all to enable an academy culture derived from this self-image and to bring it to life through appropriate behavior.

The AdBK consistently pursues any misconduct. If necessary, it takes measures to protect those affected, raises awareness of how to deal with them and provides information about counseling services. It sees this as part of its obligation to create excellent academic working and teaching conditions for a contemporary and high-quality artistic education.
