Vita

Prof. Friederike Girst worked as an art director at the National Post in Toronto, the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, as well as a designer at the New York Times Magazine and as deputy art director of the weekly newspaper Die Woche. Since 2006, she has headed the graphic design/visual communication department at the AdBK Nürnberg with Prof. Holger Felten. Since 2013, founder and partner of Studio Umlaut, an office for communication and design strategies.

As a book author, Girst published the anthology "Herrschaftszeiten vom Leben im Patriachat" (Cologne: DuMont, 2009) and "Grafik-Design im Dritten Jahrtausend" (Nürnberg: Verlag für Moderne Kunst, 2012). Numerous publications, including in Bayerns Beste, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Print Magazine, Stern, Type Directors Club, as well as the Art Directors Club Germany, USA, Canada and Europe.

Numerous international awards for design and creation, including gold medal, silver and bronze medals, Art Directors Club Germany; gold medal of the Society of Publication Design, New York; silver medals of the Society of News Design, New York; silver medal, Art Directors Club of New York; Lead Award; Art Directors Club Canada; 2001 voted Junior Talent of the Year by ADC Europe and ADC Germany, 1999 Young Gun, Print Magazine, USA.

Jury member for the Lead Award, ADC Germany, Society of Publication Design, New York, Society of News Design, New York.
