Questions about the application portfolio


The application portfolio is a digitized artistic portfolio that includes at least 20 artistic works and is uploaded to the application portal in one file. The application portfolio may not contain any inserted links to time-based digital works such as YouTube, dropbox, one drive or similar. Time-based digital works can only be uploaded via an upload function in the upload portal (link in the application portal). 

 

Questions on the letter of motivation


The letter of motivation should explain the reason for applying for a place on a maximum of one DIN A4 page. It must be uploaded stating the desired field of study along with the name of the desired art class.

 

Questions About Choosing an Art Class

 

Studies at the AdBK Nuremberg are conducted in class groups. Each class is led by a professor. During the registration process on the portal, you will be asked to list 1–4 classes in your order of preference. To this end, it is advisable to visit the Academy’s website or the websites of the individual classes prior to the registration process to learn about the focus areas and working methods of the various classes.
Upon admission to the program, you will then be enrolled in a class. Depending on capacity and other factors, we will take your class preferences as indicated on the portal into account whenever possible.

 

Questions about certificates and proof of previous education


All certificates and certificates of previous education required for the application must be uploaded in one file. Applicants who have acquired the general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification outside the area of application of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany, i.e. abroad, should provide all certificates and attestations required for recognition. The previous school education abroad must be described in detail in the curriculum vitae. Applicants from China, Vietnam and India should always upload the APS certificate. 

 

Questions about the German B2 CEFR language certificate


International applicants must submit the German B2 CEFR language certificate. If this is already available, please upload it to the application portal. The language certificate is a prerequisite for admission and must be submitted by the start of studies at the latest.

 

Questions about the internship certificate


If you have already completed an internship, please upload your certificate(s) in the application portal. The internship can be divided into different periods and completed at different locations. The internship serves to acquire practical skills in handling materials and equipment as a basis for studying in the field of fine arts. Recognition of school internships (FOS etc.) is unfortunately not possible. Proof is a prerequisite for admission and must be provided at the latest at the start of the course by submitting a certificate from the employer stating the place, time and type of work. This proof is not required if a journeyman's examination has been passed in a relevant profession. Unfortunately, the Academy cannot arrange internships. 

 

Questions about the orientation internship (only for art education)


If you would like to apply for the Art Education course, an orientation internship at schools is required in addition to the pre-study internship. If you have already completed the orientation internship, please also upload this certificate. It is recommended that you complete the orientation internship before starting your studies; however, this is not an admission requirement.

Application and Acceptance Process

How to apply at the AdBK Nürnberg

 

Depending on the subject you select, various admission requirements must be fulfilled, including an artistic-creative aptitude which you must demonstrate on the basis of your portfolio and in the aptitude test. An online application tool will be activated at the beginning of the application phase for Diploma Visual Arts and Art Education and the Master’s program Live Art Forms (March 15th - April 15 th).

 

You can only apply for one degree program: Fine Arts, Art Education, or the MA Live Art Forms.
In the Fine Arts and Art Education degree programs, studies are completed in a class setting. The classes are each led by a professor. In the application portal, you have the option of specifying an artistic class or “preferred professors.” To do so, you will be asked in the application portal to list one to four classes in which you can imagine studying at the AdBK, in your preferred order. It is a good idea to visit the websites of the individual classes in advance of the registration process to find out about their focus and working methods. Upon admission to the program, you will be enrolled in a class; depending on available capacity and other factors, your class selection as indicated on the portal will be taken into account.

 

The digital application should be a digitized portfolio, with a physical form as a starting point, provided that the original works were created in analog form.

Students changing university

Transfer students in the Fine Arts and Gymnasium Art programs require the same qualifications as regular students. An application for a change of university is only possible if you are enrolled at a university of fine arts within Germany or the EU at the time of application and wish to continue your studies with us. If you have successfully completed the basic studies or a probationary period at a university of fine arts within Germany or the EU, you can be exempted from the oral examination upon application. The application deadlines in this case are January 15 (cut-off deadline) if you begin your studies in the following summer semester and April 15 (cut-off deadline) if you begin your studies in the following winter semester. If you are interested, please contact the Student Secretariat for further information and to clarify the details.

 

Visting students

Visiting students may only attend the life drawing course and/or art-related sciences lectures and/or art classes. In principle, visiting students require the same qualifications as regular students, but the academy is entitled to make exceptions in special cases.
