The exhibition "Cyber Stone" explores the essence of memory and new modes of perception in the digital age through the process in which 'stone' as material meets digital information, expanding and transforming.
For the artist, stones represent a condensed cross-section of space and time; beginning with the collection of physical stones, she blends sensory memories with digital recordings and creates 'Cyber Stones' through AI-assisted reconstruction of information. In the exhibition space, collected actual stones and notes are placed as static objects, while screens display AI-generated images and ever-changing texts that create a dynamic landscape. Based on Henri Bergson's work "Matter and Memory" and his theory of 'creative reconstruction of memory', the exhibition proposes new perceptual experiences at the boundary between material and digital realms, questioning how we store, interpret, and reconstruct our experiences.
Minang Cho is based in Nuremberg, Germany and Seoul, South Korea. Currently, she is studying Networked Materiality (Vernetzte Materialität) under the guidance of Constant Dullaart at the same academy, exploring the interaction between digital networks and the material world.
She observes the intersection of physical environments and immaterial worlds, expressing them through media such as installation, video, sculpture, drawing, and performance based on her somatic experiences. She focuses on the two environments that change with the development of digital technology and the expansion of networks, questioning how the sensory perception of the body transforms our perception in a realm where reality and virtuality are mixed. Her work primarily revolves around the keywords 'flow', 'connection,' and ‘circulation’ revealing a perspective that sees the two environments of reality and virtuality as a continuum that continuously influences each other within the ongoing movement of time and space.
