The short documentary film 1. IT DOES NOT STOP. (17:57 min) by Nura Maar offers intimate insights into the artist's family and their everyday reality in an observational, poetic, and performative manner. Without commentary or editing, images and sound become a sequence of memories and stories. The largely calm camera shots create a patient and loving homage to the deceased grandfather, paving the way for an understanding of the incessant nature of learning, multidimensional communication, and the individual architect*existence of one's own being. The footage was produced in 2023 in Middle Franconia, Upper Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg exclusively with a handheld camera.
As a continuation of 1. IT DOES NOT STOP. the short film 2. SADNESS IS BEAUTIFUL. (14:17 min) ventures a step into the artist's more distant past. Melancholy, anger, and the feeling of loss become blurred in many hazy images, like a fever dream of unclear actions and intentions. However, Nura Maar does not see the scenes shown as suffering, but as a reminder of strength of character, perseverance, and resilience. Most of the film's footage was shot in Upper Bavaria in 2018 with a small-format digital camera and documents a move.
Nura Maar (1996) has been studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg since 2019. She sees herself primarily as a sculptor, although her focus is not on plastic or sculptural works, but rather on creating memorable moments across multiple dimensions and levels. Her thematic explorations relate to dealing with her own emotions and the question of how these can create a connection to the outside world. For some time now, the color blue has been a central element in this process. As a secret admirer of the attempt to understand human existence in its political, psychological, philosophical, and gently fatalistic (in an arbitrary sense) facets, Nura Maar lives and works according to the principle: “Jusqu'ici tout va bien.”
