January 17 — February 01
Akademie Galerie
The Surface Matter exhibition is the result of an international network of painting technique teachers that has been in existence since 2017, is constantly expanding, and meets at irregular intervals. The focus is on exchange—in the field of teaching and specific painting techniques—as well as international networking. For the first time, works by teachers involved in the network are now being shown alongside works by their students. The focus is on different approaches to painting techniques, which extend to questions of material sustainability, economics, and professionalization, the relationship between painting and AI, and gender-specific aspects.
The exhibition will then travel to the University of Tsukuba in Japan and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, Sweden.
