The class for fine arts / jewelry and objects - AdBK Nuremberg

denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun

Klasse Prof. Suska Mackert: Absolvent:innen 2023 – denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun, 8. März – 2. April 2023, Kunstpavillon im Alten Botanischen Garten

Gestaltung: Elisabeth Thoma

The exhibition title, borrowed from the german translation of the film Rebel without a Cause, encapsulates the feeling of taking risks and trying to break away from conventions. Questioning our positions and seeking to define our place within the field of jewelry and the arts, we are challenging the notion of conforming to conventional expectations, instead embracing a sense of freedom and boldness in our practices.

The works show a diversity of perspectives. Through overlapping connections between them the field of jewelry is expanded. What does it mean to be an artist? How would it be if we lived with dinosaurs? What if beauty can only be understood by making? Do traces of an intense encounter become destruction or perfection? What if being a host meant always challenging expectations? Is it the objects themselves or the memories / imaginations / projections / possibilities of them that are inscribed into us? What if we refused to create objects that last?

While we do not and will not know what our future holds, we embrace the uncertainty and taking a risk.

A rebel without a cause is just a punk / (denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun)

Participating artists Esther Gleuwitz, Markus Haas, Katja Köditz, Martin Karl Kufieta, Rosanna von Angerer and Stella Wanisch
