AdBK student Lola Vorläufer and graduates Alessia Pennavaria and Joseph Lanzinger are taking part in shift/walls, which is being held for the fourth time following a three-year hiatus.

Lola Vorläufer is a student in the Jewellery and Objects class taught by Prof. Suska Mackert and draws on conceptual art, installation and performance. Her projects often arise from specific places and encounters and explore how social structures, feminist issues and collective experiences shape spaces. 

Alessia Pennavaria and Joseph Lanzinger studied in the Sculpture class under Prof. Micheal Stevenson. As a duo, they develop site-specific works at the intersection of installation, digital imagery and performance. At the heart of their artistic practice lies the question of how architecture, memory and digital imagery shape our perception of spaces.

With shift/walls, the exhibition spaces of the Kunsthaus and the ballroom of the Künstlerhaus will be transformed into an open production space for two weeks, from 11 to 27 September 2026. Where finished works are usually presented, the artistic process now takes centre stage: eight artists will work simultaneously in front of an audience, revealing what usually remains hidden behind the scenes of the exhibition world.
 

Artists working in the fields of graffiti, installation, performance, sound, drawing and conceptual art will work side by side for two weeks in a shared studio. Different artistic approaches come together, respond to the space and evolve through their interaction with one another. What usually happens behind the studio walls becomes part of the exhibition: decisions, doubts, spontaneous interventions and new ideas remain visible and shape the ongoing process.

In the process, it is not only the art that changes, but also the exhibition space itself. Walls are painted, spaces are reinterpreted, sound spreads out and performative moments emerge between the works. Even the outdoor space becomes part of the project as large-scale works take shape there step by step. Every day leaves new traces – those who visit more than once will experience shift/walls differently each time.

shift/walls brings together eight interdisciplinary artists whose working methods could scarcely be more different, yet who are united by a shared ethos: an openness to process, exchange and experimentation. 
 

Throughout the project, the Kunsthaus and Künstlerhaus invite visitors to meet the artists as they work and to experience the creative process first-hand. At weekends, the ballroom serves as an extension of the studio, functioning as a community space – a place for exchange, encounters and socialising, where visitors and artists can strike up conversations.

The project culminates in a presentation weekend accompanied by culinary delights. Two intensive weeks of collaborative work then coalesce into a multi-layered overall picture, revealing what could only have emerged from this particular constellation, within this limited timeframe and through the open, on-site process.
