From October 4, Edith Saldanha's two-channel video installation “SKIN.BODIES I” will be on display in the foyer of the Nuremberg Schauspielhaus theater as a European premiere.

The foyer of the Nuremberg State Theater is opening its doors to visual art. Developed in New York, Edith Saldanha's video installation “SKIN.BODIES I” explores how power relations are inscribed in bodies.

In nine scenes, Edith Saldanha's installation reflects on how bodies move between conformity and emancipation within institutions under the pressure of economic success.

The work focuses on skin as a material. Through the use of different textures, Saldanha views it as an archive for collective and individual memory and as a political space that becomes a scene of repression and transformation.

Edith Saldanha is studying in the Performative Practices Master's Program LIVE ART FORMS at the AdBK Nuremberg. The actor, performer, and video artist lives in Berlin. The video work “SKIN.BODIES I” is the first part of a triptych about structural violence and its effects on the body. The world premiere took place this year at the Brazilian video art festival “VERBO 2025.” From July to September, the video installation was on display at Galeria Vermelho in São Paulo, Pinacoteca do Ceará in Fortaleza, and Chão Luiz in São Luís.

Edith Saldanha was a permanent member of the Munich Kammerspiele ensemble from 2020 to 2024 and has been a permanent member of the Schauspielhaus Zürich ensemble since the 2025/26 season. She also works as a voice artist (Deutschlandfunk, BR, Audible) and appears in film and television productions (“Biohacker” - Netflix, “Helgoland 513” - SKY).

The opening of “SKIN.BODIES I” with an artist talk will take place on October 4 at 7 p.m. in the foyer of the Nuremberg Schauspielhaus. The European premiere of the work will take place simultaneously with the International Arts Center of Flanders, De Singel in Antwerp. The work had its world premiere at the Brazilian video art festival VERBO 2025 from July to September.
