Study

Studying

The program is structured by four-week phases taking place in fall, winter, spring and summer on campus at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. These intense phases of collective learning and production alternate with phases in which students are able to research, work and study elsewhere. These on- and off-campus phases shape the “low-residency” character of the program and enable students to develop an independent and international practice beyond the studios and stages of the academy.

General descriptions of classes and a sequence of studying over the course of two years are available for download in a catalog of modules (Modulhandbuch)

Here you can find a plan of study phases as a pdf.

Application

Admission is open yearly from mid march to mid April for the winter semester of the same year.

See the admission requirements and info on the documents, prospective students need to send in for the qualifying examinations.

The qualifying exams will be held in a two tier process, a portfolio review and interview session with applicants.

Professors and faculty will discuss questions of prospective students in an online info session in mid January of each year.

If you want to be notified of a future session, please subscribe to our email newsletter:

liveartforms-at-adbk-nuernberg.de

Please understand that we will not accept or respond to individual requests for mentorship, grant application support, portfolio review and study consultation before prospective students have taken part in an online info session or attended one of our events on campus.

We are open to prospective students coming by at any time during our on-campus phases and visit study and research classes, showings and crits. Please write an email to liveartforms at adbk-nuernberg.de to introduce yourself briefly before you show up.

International students

For international prospective students, we are generally open to mentor your pathway into studying in Germany and at AdBKN and your application to financial support by DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) or other federal and state study grant programs after we have met in an online info session, discussed the program in detail and after you have completed the qualifying examinations succesfully. In this case the aplication process to both the program and the funding agency might take a full academic year. A deferal to the follwoing academic year then is possible and suggested by our faculty.

Accreditation

Live Art Forms MA is certified by the german Akkreditierungsrat as a full time master's program and runs for 2 years.  according to the European Credit and Transfer System (ECTS). Currently it is not possibly to study part time.

Please note, that the structure of intensification in blocks does not have any effect of the program being full time and full credit (120 CP)

Performative Practices Master's Program

Live Art Forms – Techne, Soma, and Geos, © VOJD 2023

As a recently developed master's program, Live Art Forms aims to teach a contemporary understanding of performance art, not as a discipline in between the visual and performing arts. Instead, we speak of it in terms of an undiscipline — a plurality of performative and aesthetic practices situated in a multiplicity of public spaces, on digital platforms and networked infrastructures, rooted in and spawning from the social and physical body.

The program enables students to grow with us towards these complex individual, collaborative, or collective performative practices in the spirit of artistic research and experimentation. We intend to foster and care for a multitude of worldviews and identities, despite the challenges of the current political climate.
