MIRACL – Music Interaction Research and Audio Creation Lab

LEONARDO – Zentrum für Kreativität und Innovation

MIRACL – Music Interaction Research and Audio Creation Lab im LEONARDO

MIRACL is the specialized audio creative & research studio of LEONARDO.

It deals primarily with two areas: audio production and audio research. Stationary specialized audio computer workstations are supported by professional equipment in audio production, sound recording and mastering.

The recording studio has audio measuring equipment and a current-stabilized experimental station for music electronics. At MIRACL, music can be created from scratch and high-quality recordings and sound processing can be made. For this purpose, a wide range of modern musical instruments and various reference loudspeakers in different open surround formats are provided. In addition, high-resolution digital video cameras and basic sound equipment are available.

  • Media music production: musical contributions for public presentations, music for film trailers, music for educational films, web content, audio branding, music for games, VR implementations with 3D audio.
  • Audio research: visualization of multidimensional sound measurements, development of software tools for virtualization, measurements on sound equipment
  • Production of edutainment videos about audio-specific knowledge
  • Workshops on music production and audio engineering

Both studio rooms have low-reflection professional interior acoustics. The control rooms each have a variety of digital audio workstations, both Windows and macOS based.

The Music Interaction Research Studio (MIR) features a hybrid Steinway Spirio | R grand piano and a wide selection of analog, digital and acoustic instruments.

The Audio Creation Lab Studio is equipped with a soundproof recording booth and a calibrated 5.1 surround speaker setup. Various high-end preamps, compressors and equalizers form the basis for creative experimentation and detailed research.
